New Services, New Revenue Opportunities and Exceptional Indoor Coverage

Mobile operators are facing the challenge of providing their customers with ubiquitous high quality 3G coverage, especially indoors and at home. At the same time, operators’ ARPU growth is being driven by the increasing demand for wireless data, but operators’ wireless networks are currently being pushed to the limit by their customers’ demand for more and more mobile data bandwidth.

Argela, a home gateway and femtocell provider for fixed and mobile operators, today announced that it has joined the Femtoforum.

Overview

By connecting subscribers’ mobile handsets and devices to a mobile operator’s network over residential DSL or broadband cable connections, Argela’s Femtocell provides a turn-key solution for mobile operators wanting to surmount these challenges.

Argela’s Femtocell technology provides three main advantages for mobile operators: a low-cost, standalone, UMTS Iuh standard compliant femtocell with the option to choose best-of-breed equipment; the ability to offer novel services in the “home zone”; and a product portfolio including a Home Gateway that integrates several wireless technologies: femtocell, IPTV, Wi-Fi/DSL, SIP, and ZigBee/WirelessHD, all unified with converged middleware.

Femtocell and Home Gateway

Femtocell services
Argela’s Femtocell not only enhances indoor coverage but also enables operators to provide many new, home-based services to mobile subscribers.

Femtocell specific home zone services
When the mobile phone comes within range of Argela’s Femtocell, the mobile phone camps on, notifying the operator of the subscriber’s presence and in turn, triggering various web and voice services.

Connected home network services
Similar to home zone services, home devices are also triggered when the phone camps on the femtocell, enabling remote control and data-sharing of networked home electronics.
